Polyester costs more than similar nylon fabrics so we better have a Super Good reason to use them.
1. Polyester makes the tarp almost completely sag proof. While nylon absorbs water and expands 3.5% in length - Polyester is unchanged for all practical purposes.
2. Polyester absorbs less water, it dries faster and, of course, it weighs less when it's wet.
3. Polyester absorbs just a few tenths of a percent water and doesn't seem to grow or shrink at all.
4.Material. There are only two logical choices. Ripstop Nylon or spending more for ultralight materials like our Fortress. Ripstop nylon is lightweight, more durable, tear & puncture resistant weather resistant and stronger. Our rain flys have a 2000 PU waterproof rating which is double the waterproof standard.
Fun Fact: Ripstop Nylon is the primary material used in hot air balloons where your life depends on it.
