1. VEML7700 simplifies your life by calculating illuminance, which is the SI unit of light. You'll get more consistent readings across multiple sensors because you don't need to deal with some unitless values. The sensor has a 16-bit dynamic range, can detect ambient light from 01ux to about 120klux, has a resolution down to 0.00361x/ct, and has software adjustable gain and integration time.

2. The sensor uses ordinary general-purpose 12C. We put this sensor on a breakout board with a 3.3V regulator and logic level converter, so you can use it with a 3.3V or 5V power/logic microcontroller. We've written libraries for Arduino (C/C++) and CircuitPython (Python3),so you can use this sensor with almost any kind of device, even the Raspberry Pi.
